Basic Information

This page describes the basic information for using WISARD.

Interface [top]

WISARD provides the command-line interface and the graphical user interface is not supported.
In order to use WISARD properly, check whether it can be run in your operating systems requirements. The operating systems supported by WISARD are described in the download page.

Two versions of WISARD [top]

Currently, we provide two different ways to utilize WISARD.

  • Stand-alone version of WISARD provides extensive analysis features. In order to use this, please go to the download page and see the instructions.
  • Web-version of WISARD also limitedly allows some analyses using your web browser. In order to use this, please go to the Web-WISARD page.

Running WISARD [top]

The procedure to run stand-alone WISARD is followed:

  • The first step is to download WISARD (see the download page for detail).
  • After downloading WISARD, you are ready to perform genetic analysis with WISARD. The detailed information for execution can be found from the running page.
  • If some unexpected behavior happens during your execution, it will be terminated with the message 'FATAL ERROR'. If you meet this error message, please send us the log file with error message by email.

Example 1 : Example of unexpected termination
...
[loadPrevalences] 1 prevalences detected
[handler] Fatal ###ERROR### occured!!!!
### FATAL ERROR
WISARD encountered error, please report this to biznok@gmail.com
### FATAL ERROR

Possible reasons of fatal error

Since the fatal error is raised when (1) WISARD detected unexpected situation or (2) the operating system goes inevitable situation to terminate WISARD, there are some possible reason as below.

  • Too large dataset exceeds the size of installed RAM was given.
Every computer system contains a fast and volatile device to memory something, called Random Access Memory. Since the capacity of RAM is limited, compared to the capacity of hard disk drive, handling too large dataset using WISARD may requires larger size of RAM than installed. In this case, WISARD will halt itself with an error message or be halted by operating system to prevent ultimate crash of entire system.
  • Latent mistake on WISARD caused unexpected siutation.
Although a development of WISARD is always covered with a careful management and comprehensive debug, it is sometimes possible to WISARD behaves unexpected way under certain condition. If it is evident that the fatal error is not caused from the above reasons, please let us know about the fatal error via e-mail.
    NOTE!
If you report the situation with the produced log as an attachment, it will be a great help to us!
